On March 8, 2020, the State Committee for Development and Reforms of the PRC announced an almost complete restoration of the movement of freight trains from China. In the near future, the committee will take all possible measures to support the work of the China-Europe railway connection.
Over the past two months, China has sent and received about 1,100 trains, an increase of about 6% over last year. With all this, it was possible to avoid empty return trains and a drop in tariffs. Trains operate on 35 existing routes and border ports operate smoothly.
According to Xiao Weiming, head of the regional opening department of the State Committee for Development and Reforms of the People's Republic of China, the next step will be the launch of a set of measures aimed at ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the China-Europe railway connection.
"We are considering the possibility of creating a number of centers for the consolidation of goods, which will have weight throughout China and will be able to provide the resource advantage of freight transportation by rail," Xiao said.
