MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION IS ...

FEATURES OF MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION

Multimodal transportation is the transportation of any product by two or more modes of transport, organized by one logistics company. The carrier has the right to use vehicles that belong to other companies for delivery. At the same time, all responsibility for the delivery of cargo lies solely with him, since the entire route is concluded with one contract. The Contractor undertakes to independently calculate the delivery price, taking into account various factors (type of cargo, timing, final point of unloading and availability of suitable flights).
Multimodal cargo transportation is actively used in the following cases:

  • Lack of direct communication with a single transport mode between the customer and the sender.
  • The available types of messages do not meet the client's requirements for some reason (high cost, long delivery time, etc.).

TYPES OF MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION

Based on the main transport type, the following types are distinguished:

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Ground transportation fits into the multimodal category when using a complex scheme with the collection of goods from different suppliers by a small vehicle with further consolidation of the cargo and transportation by other means of transport. Or in the case of transportation of products in large vehicles, and in the field, targeted delivery is carried out by various customers, but by a single customer. In most cases, this method is used to transport goods to several European countries, since European customs rules are more loyal. Automobile cargo transportation from China to Russia is mainly used in multimodal schemes, due to insufficient quality road traffic in the Russian Federation. It makes sense in cargo transportation by car when it is required to deliver goods to the border points of Russia.

BY SEA
In its pure form, container transport is rarely used, since the sender and the customer are rarely connected by the same waterway. The cost of sea freight, unloading and loading depends on the shipping line. Most of the market operators provide services at roughly the same tariff plans.

RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION
This type of transportation is one of the most profitable methods of cargo delivery. By rail, it is possible to transport any type of cargo - from bulk materials to general consumer goods. Due to its high carrying capacity, the cost of such transportation is quite low. Another advantage is the uninterrupted operation of the train. Regardless of the weather conditions, the railway lines continue to function, which reduces the risk of temporary delays. Also, this method is considered one of the safest, the risk of breaking the container is minimal. The only drawback of this type is the impossibility of delivering cargo "to the door", which is why rail transport is mostly combined with others, for example, road transport.

BY AIR
Transportation of multimodal cargo by plane is perfect for those who need to receive an order urgently. However, this service will have to pay a large sum, especially in comparison with alternative transport methods. When placing an order, it is worth clarifying which airlines your potential business partner cooperates with. If it has a wide list, then you can expect to get the best value and the most convenient route.
